Russia plane crash: Dozens killed in Rostov-on-Don

I found this story on the BBC News Page. It was published on 19th March 2016, however did not specify who wrote it.

The story is written regarding the passenger jet that has crashed in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don, killing all 55 passengers and seven crew on board.

The FlyDubai Boeing 737-800, coming from Dubai, missed the runway as it attempted to land at 03:50 local time (00:50 GMT) on Saturday.

It is not clear what caused the crash but poor visibility and high winds are being considered as a factor.
Most of the victims were Russian. Four children were among the dead.

FlyDubai said 44 Russians, eight Ukrainians, two Indians and an Uzbek were killed. All were passengers.
The head of the airline, Ghaith al-Ghaith, said the pilot was a Cypriot and the co-pilot was a Spaniard.
Russian authorities had earlier said all but one of the crew were Russian.

Air disasters timeline
It came down about 250m (800ft) short of the start of the runway in Rostov, some 950km (600 miles) south of Moscow.

About 700 rescue workers were sent to the site of the crash and the fire was extinguished, media reports said.

I decided to pick this story for my weekly news because it is one that I have heard about a lot on a range of different media platform as well as from many different people. I found this story very tragic as it is based on the topic of a very high number of innocent people dying, and the fact that it is not yet known why they have died, makes me feel even worse about the whole situation and encourages me to read further, and follow the story in order to be able to find out any new information.

PC Dave Phillips murder trial: Accused 'used cannabis age six'

I found this story for my weekly news, on the BBC News web page. The story is said to be from Liverpool, however does not specify who it was written by.
The story is based on the trial of a teenager who has been accused of deliberately running over and killing a police officer that has been a cannabis user since the age of six, as the court has heard.
Father-of-two PC Dave Phillips, 34, died when he was hit by a pick-up truck in Wallasey, Wirral, in October.
Clayton Williams, 19, had been buying drugs and had smoked a "spliff" before stealing the Mitsubishi truck, Manchester Crown Court heard. However, Mr Williams denies murder and claims he did not intend to injure the officer.
The court heard he had been out of jail for three weeks after another police pursuit when he crashed into a lamp post.
On the night of the crash, he claimed the drugs may have slowed his reactions when he ran over PC Phillips during an 80 mph police chase. When he was arrested, Mr Williams told police he had burgled Oxton Estates in Birkenhead, which he came across while walking back from buying "some weed".
He continued: "I thought and knew I had injured him. I did not realise I had killed him. I saw it on the news and I felt sick. "I did not intend to kill PC Phillips. I fully accept I am responsible for his death [due] to the manner of my driving."
The teenager has admitted a charge of burglary and aggravated vehicle taking.
He denies murder, and also denies a second count of attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to PC Thomas Birkett, 23, who had to dive out of the way after PC Phillips was hit.
A second man, Philip Stuart, 30, who was the passenger in the truck, has admitted burglary and aggravated vehicle taking, by being allowed to be carried in the Mitsubishi.
The trial still continues.

Regional Identity

Regional identity is identifying a persons identity, which is rooted not only in the setting of the film but also in speech, costumes etc. and in the region they live in. Regional identity usually coincides with stereotypes, which means a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes usually have negative or humorous connotations, which do not apply to every single indigenous person in a particular region.

1.   The Only Way Is Essex
Essex's materialistic teen stereotypes are immediately portrayed by the three characters at the entrance to the scene, through the topics shown such as sunbathing, hairstyling and make-up. This is a clear indication that the characters care more for their aesthetic appeal than their personal qualities. The tanning and so called ‘orange skin’ and continuous actions undertaken to make themselves look perfect are both signifiers of materialism and self-obsession, which now became a typical Essex-based stereotype in today's society.

2.   Made In Chelsea
In an instant, a completely contrary variation of character is portrayed merely through the mise en scene. By this I am referring to the flashy Mercedes', the sunglasses, the fashionable tailored clothing and the yachts. Before even the uttering of a single syllable, audiences would immediately make the assumption that the featured characters live exclusive lifestyles. The subject of the conversation also gives massive implications that the characters are wealthy when the young man mentions going to "cannes in southern France", a destination for the rich and famous. Before the end of the highlight reel, the words Glamour, Romance, Wealth, Excess, Drama and Gossip are shown one after the other in white bold text foregrounded on a plain black background. The title 'Made In Chelsea' then appears - referencing a place, an extremely glamorous, high-flying place.

3.   Geordie Shore
Geordie Shore is where people have got the stereotyped image of people being part animals from Newcastle with a strong Geordie accent. People who are shown in the reality programme are represented as being party animals who go out and constantly get drunk. This, therefore creates the stereotype that all people who are from or live in Newcastle will be the same as the people who are being presented in Geordie Shore. This show creates a negative representation of young people or a younger generation. This is because the people who play in it, are all of a young age and therefore, this not only creates a negative image on the people from Newcastle, but also on young adults as a whole.

Migrant crisis: Boat sinking off Didim, Turkey claims 25 lives

I found my weekly news story on the BBC News Page. This story is regarding a boat carrying migrants from Turkey to Greece has sunk with the loss of 25 lives as Turkey's coast guard says.

Fifteen people were rescued after the boat capsized near the Turkish resort of Didim.
Reports suggest Macedonia has set new curbs on Syrian migrants trying to cross the land border from Greece.
Nato is expanding its mission in the Aegean to send patrols to Turkish and Greek territorial waters in the battle to defeat people smugglers.

Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement: "The purpose of Nato's deployment is not to stop or push back migrant boats, but to help our allies Greece and Turkey, as well as the European Union, in their efforts to tackle human trafficking and the criminal networks that are fuelling this crisis."

An emergency summit will take place between the EU and Turkey on Monday to try to seek a common approach to handling the flow of arrivals.

A Turkish search and rescue operation was launched after the latest sinking in the Aegean Sea.
At least three children are believed to be among those who died.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) says at least 321 migrants drowned trying to get to Greece between 1 January and 3 March.

More than 2,000 migrants, most of whom the IOM says are from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, are arriving into Greece from Turkey every day hoping to travel further north through Europe.
But some EU countries re-imposed internal border controls and Macedonia sharply reduced the numbers allowed to cross, leading to a build-up on the Greek side of the border.

On Sunday, reports from the border said Macedonia had stopped allowing entry to anyone from areas in Iraq and Syria it did not consider to be active conflict zones.
