“One of the hundreds of former servicemen and women taking part
in this year's Cenotaph ceremony is 25-year-old Shaun Stocker from Wrexham.
Injured in April 2010 by an IED explosion in Afghanistan, he
lost both his legs, his left eye, and most of his vision in his right. He was
only 19 years old.
Shaun told
our correspondent Hywel Griffith what it meant to him to march in the
Remembrance Sunday parade for the first time since he was injured.”
I found this article on the main page of the BBC
News website. It was published on the 8th November 2015 and provides
a video showing a war veteran who lost his vision and legs describing his story
how he feels about it.
In the video, Shaun describes how he has been
working in the arm forces for 5 ½ years and had to leave after the accident occurred.
He dais that what has happened made him realise what is important in life and
opened a brand new chapter for him where he took much more care in his personal
life and family as one of the most that he was scared of was that he is not
going to be able to look after himself and them anymore.
I think that this news article is very touching and
important as it gives a better understanding of what is happening in the world
and what all the battles and wars lead to. It makes people understand how many
lives have been affected and how many families have been separated with their
life turned upside down. This news article can help to raise awareness across people and maybe persuade them into helping those who fight for the country.
