Censorship

Censorship is described in the New World Encyclopedia as:
Supervision and control of the information and ideas that are circulated among the people within a society. In modern times, censorship refers to the examination of books, periodicals, plays, films, television and radio programs, news reports, and other communication media for the purpose of altering or suppressing parts thought to be objectionable or offensive.”

Censorship is fully controlled by the countries government as well as any other large media institutions. The fact that it is run by the countries government, also means that it can be change and adapted in order to fit their own needs and to portray the image that they want to show. This can include doing things such as showing bias opinions about a certain topic/religion/country so that the viewers continue to fully support their government and see their country as the best to live in and follow.

Personally, I think that censorship should be present in the media for a number of reasons. One of them is the idea of many children being influenced by what they see in the media. Children have very young minds and not much experience and so, it is very difficult for them to differentiate between real, good and bad. Censorship helps in this cause as it helps to limit the amount and type of content shown to the viewer of a certain age such as, the amount of violence, which affects the perception of young children and so an emphasis needs to be made on the fact that killing people is illegal and immoral. Moreover, the casual approach towards the topics of sex and pornography is giving very wrong ideas to the young minds and so supervising and limiting what is broadcasted can prevent children from being confused and getting any wrong ideas.
